Abs and crunches will only tone the muscle underneath the fat, and will not get rid of it. The best and most effective fat busting exercise is low intensity aerobic exercise done for a MINIMUM of twenty minutes, such as jogging, brisk walking, dancing etc... This is because fat is only used as a fuel source when the body has used up Phosphocreatine (used for the first ten seconds) and Glycogen (for around 10-minutes). The body also needs oxygen to burn fats, hence why the exercise must be low intensity (if you work to hard the body will respite anaerobically (without oxygen). So if you want tone - do crunches etc... but the only way you will burn fat is through the above!
References :
Four years of sports science experience.

Hey relax a little it is all good.
You have been given some good answers here and some duds, please pay heed only to the sensible ones!
Im going to focus my answer on a small part of your question because everyone else has done a fabulous job already.
The hardest and most smartest muscle group in all your body is the abdominals. If you want tokickstart that area here are a few pointers:

1. Try doing pilates hundreds with variable leg positions (google yoga hundreds you will get endless pictures for crrect form techniques and execution). This exercise is responsible for activating the underlying muscles in your abdominals, right down to the core. People often make the mistake of doing crunches and sit ups, these are a waste of time and do nothing but give you a bad back and work the superficial top layer of your abdominal pack.

2. The lower area of the abs is the most laziest of the whole lot!!! That is why most people have that little podge that likes to stick out, especially women that have given birth as this has connections to our pelvic floor muscles.
Any exercise that has you lying on your back and requires you to stick your feet in the air helps. Angle your feet away while keeping your legs straight is even better. Then bring your hands behinf your head and keeping your elbows back bring your head off the floor. Try holding that for a minute.
Do variations with this exercise. Lower one leg down to the floor at a time while keeping your legs straight.
Or try jacknives (google this term if not sure) they are great for legs as wel as abs especially the lower abs.

3. Bycicle curls

4. Plank

Like I said google any of these and you will get pictures for correct form and technique
These exercises are among my favourite for some serious solid abdominals and core strength

Hope this helps
References :
I am a fitness professional. I am certified in body pump, boxing and kangoo jumps

Fat stored in the stomach is mainly diet related. Carbs and sugars tend to store themselves there. If you eat less of these and drink a lot of water you should see a difference. Also running and twist your upper body while you run helps. Abs workouts work, but only if the diet is good. Otherwise you are building muscle under fat...so you still just see fat.....
References :
You can't reduce fat from one area any more than you can pick which area the fat goes to.
References :
targeted fat loss is a myth, genetics will determine where your body consumes fat from. work hard enough and eventually it'll all go.

cardio like running is one of the best forms to burn calories fast. combined with a diet you'll meet your target with time. Skipping is another good workout, but I cant really see anyone skipping for 60min straight, so your still going to have todo something else.
References :
the first place to start is by skipping any sweet sugary foods or those high in carbohydrates. Try to cut out all pasta rice and potatoes from your diet for a while. Replace them with broccoli cauliflower and other vegetables. Any exercise will do you good in burning the calories. I play hockey but use walking as my main way of staying fit. I walk with some music to listen to a few miles is great for you. Drinking ice cold water uses a surprising amount of calories. Drinking 1.5 litres of ice cold water can burn up to a pound of fat extra per week.
References :
I'm a girl almost 37, but looking more like 20 and I have a hot, sexy body.
I've never been in a gym, hospital (not even dentist at this age).
(For more details about burn fat or lose weight, please click http://www.thedietsolutioncourse.com/dietingtips.html )

I avoid all frozed foods, fast food places, pizzas, and sandwiches.
Im into soups, more liquid meals, and plenty of vegetables and fruits. Avoid fried food, boil and steam more..
I eat everything but prefer to prepare at home and avoid restaurannt foods.
You will never get the same taste if you eat out and cook home the same meal. Why?
As a former chef i could tell you there is so many little gimmicks that chefs make to prolong life of food, and be ready to easily furnish an order when a customer walks in. Easy to them, not so real to us.
References :
http://www.thedietsolutioncourse.com/loseweight.html
